Nutritional Psychiatry Research
Working to understand how food and nutrients impact mental health.
In addition to clinical role, Dr. Aucoin ND is a senior research fellow at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and an Adjuct Professor at the University of Guelph. Her research is focused on increasing our understanding of how the foods we eat affect our mental health, a field called Nutritional Psychiatry. She has published more than thirty peer-reviewed research papers and lectured internationally to a range of audiences on the role of nutrition in the treatment and prevention of mental illness.
New publication: EASe-GAD
Hot off the press! My newest publication is the EASe-GAD trial (Eating and Supplementation for Generalized Anxiety Disorder). This is the world’s first clinical trial to assess the impact of dietary counselling plus omega-3 supplementation for GAD.
Nutritional Psychiatry Research Publications
Just like the other organs of your body, your brain is affected by the food you eat. It impacts the structure and function of the brain and it’s cells. If a person has a heart attack, their cardiologist is likely to ask them about what they eat. If a person has an episode of depression, they are much less likely to be asked this same question. But this is changing. There is robust emerging evidence that links diet quality and mental health. The following are a selection of Dr. Aucoin’s nutritional psychiatry publications.
